He got distracted

I took Daniel to his 4 year check up. He did not like covering his eye. He kept trying to remove his hand, but he liked the train. He was happy to step on the scale, and see how tall he was, and as always he loves getting his temperature read. Yes we are at the Doctor often.

Time for the hearing test. It started, the nurse told him to raise his hand when he heard a beep. He did, over and over again. Then he stopped. She kept going, and repeated the same one, and almost apologetic told me "he must have gotten distracted, we will do it again," but I knew he wasn't distracted. I asked him to raise his hand if he heard a noise, and he said, " I don't hear anything" now he was annoyed and stopped raising his hand all together.

He failed his test. He has pus on his ear tube. He gets to take more medication- which he loves, We get to go back to Dr Zerlin, and retake the test. We are going back for another speech evaluation, which we planned on already. And I am aiming to see a Specialist regarding his original Arnold Chiari diagnosis.

I am so glad we started ASL when he was 1. I am so glad we have been doing Yoga since he was 6 months, I am so glad that he loves to do Legos with me.

I am so glad that he is my little boy, and that even though there are frustrations in our lives we get to go forward, find things we love and do things together, because sometimes being 4 is hard.

Sick

It is Winter again. Winter in Bakersfield does not bring snow, it does not even bring too much cold. This year we thankfully get rain. But what Winter means to my family is Sickness.

Ever since I was pregnant Winter was a season to be sick all season long, but not for me, for the kids. First it was Daniel with his ear infections, colds, flu, croup. Now Emma; sinus infections, colds, croup.

Just when I  thought we were clear and we could go back out, I took Daniel back in because he woke up one night crying from ear pain, and he has been coughing non stop since he had croup- walking pneumonia- and an ear infection.

And to be on the safe side- and to ease the mind of a Dr office we are visiting I had Emma check for it too, no pneumonia but an ear infection as well.

I don't think I can count the number of prescriptions I have filled of antibiotics I have filled for my children in this last year alone.

One day they will grow out of it and no more sickness!

Off to the ENT!

Happy Dance- He wants to sign!

I can't explain the pure joy I had when my son came to me started to talk, stopped talking, and started signing. Then he stopped. And signed
I SIGNED. with pride in his eyes.

We can do this. I can teach my children a new language. We can become a bi-lingual family.
I can get my RID licence.

Daniel asks me how to sign words he doesn't know. He wants to meet new friends who sign, he loves to sign to his sister. When he knows he needs to not talk he will start signing- which at times is still not appropriate, such as during a prayer. But we are working on it.
